an inquiry about this tribe?

My spiritual path has taken a turn in this last year and I have been studying Itallian witchcraft for the last several months. I am planning to dedicate the remainder of this year (at the very least) to this path and my spiritual workings. I am curious if this tribe is the appropriate place to discuss topics of interest in the way of the Strega or if another tribe should be created. Please let me know your thought as I am eager to discuss and see what others might have to share...

I ask, because there isn't much discussions posted yet on this tribe, therefore even though I was drawn to this tribe because of the name and association, it doesn't neccessarily mean it's appropriate discussion for this tribe...

You might be able to connect the streghe of Italy with the haruspices of Etruria, but it'd probably be a stretch and would be undocumented. If you do start a tribe, please let us know.

The only problem with asking about Italian witchcraft here is that there's few of us here know that much about it...I would try a wicca forum and a sorcery forum...

But um...the problem with wicca/sorcery of any form is that the real witchcraft was undocumented...Any books on italian witchy stuff that I have seen (such as Charles Leland) or a recent New Agey one that I saw in Barnes n Noble are rubbish I'm afraid.

You would have much better luck talking to Italians who live in the countryside - there hedgewitchery is still alive syncretized into the catholic faith - in the goddess wells you find _everywhere_ along the country roads...the superstitions of the local folk, the healing remedies given by the grandmothers to kids/spouses.

(It really seems syncretic too; not just hidden like Santeria or Vodou.)

Etruscan magick and myth is - I'll be willing to wager - far divorced from later folk magick.
The Romans learned their haruspices and augury from the Etruscans - but the only superstition I've heard from my family is "if a pigeon shits on you it's good luck, and if a seagull does, it's bad luck"!!! (honest - lol...)

My family is from the Siena area in Toscana (My father moved away to the UK when he was 20ish). See if you can find someone like me - who has family in Tuscany /Etruria area who has an active interest in the occult BUT has living relatives who would be able to answer questions. (Look for an Italy tribe maybe?)

All my grandparents who might know something are dead unfortunately.
Apparently, Zia Julia - my father's grandmother, lived in the woods and was like a witch or wise woman. (I'm guessing that was near S. Rocco a Pilli, where my dad grew up.) I got a few recipes on healing from his mother (now dead), but really most of em are real god-fearing superstitious italians who still worry about the devil coming to get them and stuff. It's really fun. ;)

One more thought - check out the univeristies in Tuscany - of Siena and Florence - see if there are any lecturers who are cogniscent about witchcraft etc..

and if you find one please let me know!

ps we def should hang out soon. :)
